EPPING FOREST OUTDOOR GROUP

On 1st and 2nd March 2008 we visited The Peak District. On Saturday, 1st March, 8 of us met up at Ashford-in-the-Water, Derbyshire, and walked about 5/6 miles on a circular walk to Monsal Head, passing the River Wye to Lees Bottom, and lunching near Rock Shelter.  In the afternoon we passed a disused water-mill by Sheep Wash Bridge.  On returning to Ashford-in-the-Water, we visited the Church of Holy Trinity. We drove to Barn Farm at Birchover, which is a working farm.  We stayed in Hill Carr Barn, which was well-appointed, and contained a huge carved dresser depicting the Siege of Calais - a little out of place in a converted barn, but nevertheless, interesting, and a talking-point!  In the evening we ate in the local pub - The Red Lion.
