Parish Boundary Stone on Leyton Flats

This Parish Boundary stone is about 100 metres from the SE corner of the Eagle Pond, quite near to the railings of Snaresbrook County Court. It marks the boundary of the "Walthamstow Slip", a strip of land about 50 metres wide and 3 miles long that stretched in a SW direction towards (actually from) Walthamstow. The "WP" on the stone referes to Walthamstow Parish, and it was to this Parish that those living within the strip paid their tithes, even though they were in Leytonstone. This lasted until 1885.
