From a garden pond in Harpenden Road, Aldersbrook.

I am reasonably sure that this alga - sometimes refered to as a colonial protist - is a species of Pediastrum. It has 32 cells and the marginal cells have two horn-like projections. There are no spaces between the cells, although five cells appear to have lost some of their chlorophyll.

The species may be P. boryanum.
