Sometimes seen by Alexandra Lake on Wanstead Flats, where in the past they were usually observed on the banks of one of the two islands, but these are now mostly overgrown.

Also occasionally seen in Wanstead Park, for example by Heronry Pond.

Sandpipers are easily disturbed and so are most likely to be observed in the early hours of the morning before the joggers and dog-walkers are about.
