Early Bumble Bee is an appropriate name for this species as it is usually one of the earliest bees to be seen in the year. It is one of the smaller bumblebees, and very common, although it must be said I have few records of it from this area!

This one was photographed on 2nd March on the sunny upstairs windowsill of my house.
