These are a common sight in mid-summer flying around the Oak trees lining Capel Road by Wanstead Flats.

They have a somewhat disconcerting tendency - possibly depending on colour - of landing on clothing if you venture across the Flats in the evening. They are quite big, heavy and buzzy - and occasionaly find their way into open window of my house opposite - or into the moth trap.
