The UK Moths website ( https://www.ukmoths.org.uk/species/mesapamea-secalis/ ) states that '...very dark forms with almost white stigmata tend to be mostly didyma'. The smaller of the two in the photograph can't really be described as 'very dark'.

On the next page (here) I have a photograph of a specimen that is dark with light-coloured stigmata.
